Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole (BCP) Council are seeking an experienced Building Control Surveyor to provide high-level technical expertise in assessing construction projects against building regulations. This role focuses on complex developments, offering specialist advice, and working with a high degree of autonomy to ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory standards.
Set-up: 2-days per week on-site
Rate: £521/day via umbrella inside IR35
Duration: Initial 3 month, subject to extension
Hours: Full-time position
Responsibilities include:
- Provide expert advice at pre-application stage on complex construction, design, and safety matters to minimise risk of non-compliance
- Assess and determine complex building regulation applications, reviewing plans, drawings, and specifications for compliance
- Carry out inspections of construction works and completed buildings to ensure adherence to safety, accessibility, and sustainability standards
- Deliver specialist technical guidance and solutions to resolve non-compliance issues and support regulatory adherence
- Produce detailed reports, issue approvals and completion certificates, and support enforcement actions where necessary
Requirements:
- Registered Building Inspector (minimum Class 2a–f)
- Degree in a construction-related discipline (or equivalent qualification)
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. RICS or CABE)
- Significant experience within the construction industry, including building control and enforcement
- Strong technical knowledge of building regulations, construction methods, and materials, with the ability to manage a varied caseload independently
