Job Description

Electrical Engineer (Ashford - Kent)

We are seeking an Electrical Engineering Specialist to join a busy Estates team, ensuring the safe, compliant and efficient operation of critical engineering systems across a healthcare estate.

This is a hands-on role combining fault finding, maintenance, compliance and project work across a diverse range of building services and infrastructure.

The Role

As an Electrical Engineering Specialist, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving a wide variety of electrical and mechanical systems that support the day-to-day operation of the organisation.

Your duties will include:

  • Diagnosing and repairing faults on electrical distribution systems, switchgear, emergency lighting, HVAC plant, BMS controls and Air Handling Units (AHUs)
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities
  • Supporting system upgrades, refurbishments, installations and equipment replacement projects
  • Reviewing completed maintenance works to ensure quality, compliance and performance standards are achieved
  • Troubleshooting technical issues and identifying long-term solutions to prevent recurring faults
  • Assisting with risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work
  • Working closely with managers, engineers and contractors to deliver maintenance and improvement programmes
  • Maintaining accurate records through CAFM and digital maintenance systems
  • Supporting statutory compliance activities and ensuring engineering standards are maintained
  • Participating in emergency response situations and providing technical support when required

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must demonstrate:

  • A City & Guilds, BTEC or equivalent qualification in an electrical discipline
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience within a complex engineering, facilities management or critical services environment
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across building services systems
  • Good knowledge of electrical distribution, emergency lighting, HVAC systems, AHUs and BMS controls
  • The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Experience carrying out safe isolations and working safely on electrical systems
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • A proactive, solution-focused approach with the ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively
  • A strong understanding of health and safety responsibilities and safe working practices
  • Flexibility to work a rotating shift pattern and respond to urgent engineering issues when required
  • A full UK driving licence

Previous experience within healthcare, NHS, education, critical infrastructure or other complex estates environments would be advantageous.
