Locum Childcare Solicitor – London Local Authority – Remote working considered – Full Time
Venn Group is working in partnership with a forward-thinking and dedicated London Local Authority in their search for a Locum Childcare Solicitor for an initial 3 month assignment.
- Length of Contract: 3 months initially, with high possibility for further extension
- Working Pattern: Full time – 36 hours
- Location: London Local Authority
- Office Attendance: Weekly attendance preferred – fully remote applicants considered
Duties and Responsibilities
- Providing specialist legal advice and guidance on childcare law to Members, Officers, and partner agencies
- Managing a diverse caseload of routine and complex matters relating to children and young people
- Drafting and preparing legal documents, court submissions, and supporting materials for hearings
- Conducting legal research and keeping the Council informed of legislative and case law developments
- Supporting senior colleagues on significant or politically sensitive cases within the childcare and safeguarding remit
- Working collaboratively across departments to ensure timely, robust, and compliant decision-making
Preferred Experience
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of CILEx entitled to practise in England and Wales
- Proven experience advising on local authority duties and powers relating to children and young adults
- Strong knowledge of childcare law, associated legislation, and case law
- Awareness of local government processes and decision-making frameworks (desirable)
- Excellent communication, drafting, and negotiation skills
- Ability to work with tact and professionalism on sensitive issues
- Comfortable operating within a digital and agile working environment
