We are seeking an experienced Education Transport Officer to coordinate and manage home-to-school transport services for children and young people, including those with SEND and other vulnerable pupils. The successful candidate will ensure transport arrangements are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with statutory requirements, while working closely with transport providers, schools, parents/carers and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate home-to-school transport arrangements in line with legislation and local authority policies.
- Procure and manage transport services, ensuring appropriate risk assessments and contract compliance.
- Ensure safeguarding and child protection requirements are embedded within all transport arrangements.
- Liaise with transport operators, schools and parents/carers to resolve issues and provide effective solutions.
- Respond promptly to service disruptions, emergencies and changing transport needs.
- Apply council policies consistently while maintaining a customer-focused approach.
- Negotiate, challenge and mediate with stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.
- Maintain accurate records and utilise Microsoft Office and specialist systems to support service delivery.
Candidate Requirements
- Knowledge of home-to-school transport legislation and statutory duties.
- Understanding of SEND and the transport needs of vulnerable children and young people.
- Experience of procuring and managing transport services or contracts.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection best practice.
- Strong communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other IT systems.
- Excellent written and verbal English.
