Asset & Smart Buildings Manager

£40.00 per hour | 5 months initially (likely to extend)

An NHS organisation is seeking an experienced Asset & Smart Buildings Manager to lead the strategic management of its estate assets and smart building technologies. This is a senior leadership opportunity to drive transformation, asset performance, compliance, and long-term investment planning across a complex healthcare estate.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Assurance, you will take ownership of the Trust's asset management strategy, ensuring the effective lifecycle management of buildings, plant, equipment and digital infrastructure. You will play a key role in developing and implementing smart building technologies, supporting major capital programmes, and ensuring compliance with statutory and NHS standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Trust-wide asset management strategy and lifecycle planning
  • Implement and develop smart building technologies and digital asset solutions
  • Manage asset registers, backlog maintenance programmes and PPM schedules
  • Ensure compliance with HTMs, HBNs and statutory requirements
  • Lead capital investment planning and asset replacement programmes
  • Manage maintenance and specialist service contracts, monitoring SLAs and KPIs
  • Provide assurance reporting to senior leadership and Board-level stakeholders
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams across estates and technical services
  • Drive innovation, digital transformation and data-driven decision making
  • Act as a senior representative at regional and national forums

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Degree qualification in Estates Management, Engineering, Building Services, Facilities Management or similar
  • Significant senior estates and facilities management experience within a complex organisation
  • Proven experience managing asset strategies, lifecycle planning and compliance programmes
  • Strong knowledge of NHS estate standards including HTMs and HBNs
  • Experience implementing smart building technologies and digital transformation initiatives
  • Strong leadership, contract management and budget management experience
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Experience managing large teams and complex operational environments

Desirable

  • NHS estates experience
  • Professional membership (IHEEM, CIBSE, IWFM, RICS, ICE or equivalent)
  • PRINCE2, APM or similar project management qualification
  • Experience with CAFM systems and digital asset management platforms
  • Capital project and investment planning experience
