Premises Caretaker
Barnet, North London Permanent | Full-Time | Immediate Start Available Salary: Dependent on Experience
A specialist education provider in Barnet is seeking a dedicated Premises Caretaker to support the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and security of its sites.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced caretaker, maintenance operative, or facilities professional looking to join a supportive organisation that makes a genuine difference to the lives of young people. Working alongside the Premises Manager, you will help ensure school buildings and grounds remain safe, secure, compliant, and well-presented at all times.
The role will be primarily based in Whetstone, with responsibility for supporting one or two additional sites as required.
Key Responsibilities
Act as a keyholder, carrying out opening and closing procedures.
Carry out routine security checks, including alarms, CCTV, fire doors, and perimeter inspections.
Undertake a range of planned and reactive maintenance tasks, including basic carpentry, plumbing repairs, painting, decorating, and general repairs.
Maintain external areas, including pathways, drains, gutters, and grounds.
Complete and record routine health and safety and compliance checks.
Carry out fire alarm testing, emergency lighting checks, water hygiene routines, and other statutory site checks.
Liaise with and supervise contractors whilst on site.
Support room setups, furniture moves, and other porterage duties.
Respond to emergency maintenance issues and site incidents.
Monitor stock levels of maintenance and cleaning supplies.
Provide support across multiple sites where required.
About You
You will ideally possess:
Previous experience in caretaking, facilities management, building maintenance, or a trade-based role.
Strong practical maintenance and DIY skills.
A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
Good knowledge of health and safety procedures.
Basic IT skills for recording maintenance issues and compliance checks.
