Direct Labour Operative / Handyman – 6 months

Central London| Β£23.68 per hour (umbrella) | 37.5 hours per week | Monday to Friday

We are recruiting for a skilled and customer-focused Direct Labour Operative / Handyman to join a busy in-house repairs team responsible for maintaining a well-established residential estate in Central London.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced multi-trade operative who takes pride in delivering high-quality repairs, excellent customer service, and ensuring residents' homes are safe, secure, and well maintained.

The Role

Key duties include:

  • Undertaking day-to-day responsive repairs and planned maintenance works.
  • Carrying out multi-trade repairs including basic plumbing, carpentry, plastering, tiling, glazing, lock replacements, and general building fabric repairs.
  • Diagnosing faults and identifying practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Completing repairs within agreed timescales and quality standards.
  • Inspecting properties and communal areas, identifying maintenance and health & safety issues.
  • Maintaining accurate records of completed works, materials used, and time spent.
  • Managing tools, equipment, and materials effectively.
  • Ensuring full compliance with health and safety procedures.
  • Providing a professional and customer-focused service when working in residents' homes.

About You

We are looking for an experienced maintenance professional who can work independently while delivering a high standard of workmanship and customer care.

You will have:

  • Experience as a Handyman, Maintenance Operative, Multi-Trade Operative, Repairs Operative, or Tradesperson within housing.
  • Practical skills across multiple trades including plumbing, carpentry, plastering, tiling, and general repairs.
  • The ability to diagnose and resolve maintenance issues efficiently.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety practices, including safe use of tools and equipment.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • The ability to manage your own workload and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Basic IT skills for completing job records and using mobile devices.

Desirable

  • NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent trade qualification.
  • Asbestos Awareness training.
  • Working at Height or Ladder Safety certification.
