An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified finance professional to join a leading NHS organisation as an Capital & Financial Accountant. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will play a key role in supporting one of the NHS's most significant capital programmes, ensuring robust financial management, reporting, and governance across capital projects and joint venture arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on Oriel capital and joint venture accounting, including loan accounting, balance sheet management and service concession accounting.
  • Support the production of Annual Accounts, statutory returns and audit requirements.
  • Manage and monitor capital expenditure against plan, providing detailed reporting and variance analysis.
  • Maintain the fixed asset and lease registers relating to Oriel projects.
  • Provide expert financial advice on capital business cases and investment decisions.
  • Partner with project teams and non-finance stakeholders to support successful delivery of major capital programmes.
  • Advise on NHS VAT matters and liaise with external VAT specialists.

About You

  • CCAB qualified (or finalist) accountant with active CPD.
  • Significant financial accounting and capital accounting experience.
  • NHS finance experience, including statutory accounts production.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information to non-finance audiences and influence senior stakeholders.
