Venn Group's specialist Public Sector Legal team are currently recruiting for a Locum Planning Lawyer to join a well-regarded Local Authority in the Midlands on an interim basis. This is an excellent opportunity to join a small and friendly legal team, advising on a broad range of planning matters within a supportive environment.
This opportunity would also be ideal for any permanent Planning Lawyers currently on a notice period who are looking to make the move into the locum market, for an attractive long-term assignment due to begin in October 2026.
Role Details:
Position: Locum Planning Lawyer
Working Arrangement: Full Time (37 hours per week across a minimum of four days), Remote working with monthly planning committee attendance
Duration: 6–12 months maternity cover, commencing October 2026
Rate: Up to £60 per hour Umbrella
Duties may include:
- Providing planning law advice to officers and Members
- Drafting and negotiating Section 106 Agreements
- Attending and advising at evening Planning Committees in the Midlands
- Advising on a broad range of planning law matters
- Delivering clear and practical legal advice to support the Council's Planning Service
Candidate Requirements:
- Qualified Solicitor with a current practising certificate
- Previous Local Government Planning Law experience
- Experience drafting and negotiating Section 106 Agreements
- Confidence attending and advising at Planning Committees
- Ability to work independently whilst supporting a collaborative legal team
