Interim Employee Relations Manager
Location: Hybrid working, 2 days per week in the office, occasionally 3 days depending on business needs
Duration: Initial 3-month contract, with potential extension
Rate: £500–£550 per day, Umbrella, Inside IR35
We are recruiting for an experienced Interim Employee Relations Manager to join a local authority, providing senior leadership across strategic and operational employee relations activity.
Working closely with the Interim Head of Workforce and Director, you will lead on complex employee relations matters, manage a team of three Senior HR Business Partners, and play a key role in workforce transformation and organisational change.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic and operational employee relations activity across the Council.
- Provide leadership and line management to three Senior HR Business Partners.
- Act as the escalation point for complex employee relations cases and sensitive workforce issues.
- Lead on complex employment tribunal cases, providing expert advice to senior stakeholders.
- Oversee the implementation of the Council’s Mutually Agreed Resignation Scheme (MARS).
- Support workforce transformation and organisational change programmes.
- Identify and implement improvements and best practice across the HR function.
- Build effective relationships with senior leaders, managers and trade union representatives.
About You
- Significant experience in a senior Employee Relations leadership role.
- Proven experience managing Senior HR Business Partners or equivalent senior HR professionals.
- Extensive experience handling complex employee relations cases and employment tribunal matters.
- A strong understanding of both strategic and operational HR and employee relations.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to advise at senior level.
- Local government experience is highly desirable and is likely to be essential for this assignment.
