Locum Civil Litigation Lawyer - Predominantly Remote Working - Up to £60 per hour Umbrella

Organisation: Midlands based Local Authority

Duration: 6 months +

Working Hours: 4 days a week, can consider full time or lesser days for experienced candidates

Working Arrangement: Predominantly Remote Working with occasional Court attendance required

Hourly Rate: Up to £60 per hour Umbrella dependent on experience

We are seeking an experienced professional with a solid background in Civil Litigation Law, ideally gained within a Local Authority or Private Practice background. The successful candidate will manage a diverse caseload, with a particular advantage for those bringing knowledge of Property Litigation.

Duties may include:

  • Manage a varied litigation caseload on behalf of the Council, including landlord and tenant disputes, council tax recovery, and data protection matters
  • Conduct and oversee boundary dispute litigation and other property-related claims
  • Handle claims arising from highways and infrastructure issues, including pot-hole and public liability claims
  • Act for the Council in Court and Tribunal proceedings, preparing cases, advocacy where appropriate, and instructing Counsel when required
  • Provide legal advice and representation in matters involving vexatious or persistent complainants, ensuring compliance with statutory and procedural requirements
  • Draft pleadings, witness statements, and other legal documentation in support of litigation activity
  • Liaise with internal departments, external solicitors, Counsel, and the Courts to progress cases effectively
  • Ensure all cases are managed in line with relevant legislation, policies, and best practice, with a focus on risk management and cost control
