Job Purpose / Overview: The purpose of the role is to support and ensure Sizewell C (SZC) Project quality requirements are complied with across the full project life-cycle (Contract award, Design, Procurement, Manufacture, Test, Shipping, Construction/Installation, Test/Commission and Contract close out). The primary purpose of the Quality Engineer (Delivery) role is to ensure supply-chain adherence to the contracted quality assurance and quality control requirements. QEs sit within the PDO Quality Team and are deployed to Programmes to serve this primary purpose. Day to day reporting is to the Quality Management Lead (QML). This includes supporting the development and implementation of Project Quality Control Plans and associated inspection and surveillance activities.

Their secondary purpose is to support their programme in achieving adherence with the Integrated Management System arrangements, putting in place additional project-specific arrangements as required and supporting the management of quality for all activities within the scope of the programme. For a given portfolio of work, the Quality Engineer shall support the Quality Management Lead (QML) and the Quality Delivery Manager (QDM) in all quality-related aspects associated with the supply chain. This includes ensuring that appropriate quality arrangements are established, effectively implemented, and maintained by the supply chain, drawing on lessons learned from the Hinkley Point C (HPC) project.

The Quality Engineer will also support the QDM and their respective Multi-Discipline Teams (MDTs) by providing quality management expertise to meet project requirements. This support ensures that products and services are delivered Right First Time (RFT), in line with SZC Project goals. In addition, the Quality Engineer will promote effective issue resolution and the implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

During manufacturing or construction, the Quality Engineer, acting as the “Intelligent Customer,” shall support the Quality Management Lead (QML) in ensuring that all manufactured equipment and construction activities comply with the contract design and technical specifications. The Quality Engineer will also support the QML in coordinating with inspection and surveillance bodies, as well as with suppliers, to ensure that effective mechanisms and arrangements are established for managing inspection and surveillance activities throughout the supply chain. This includes ensuring that inspection and surveillance plans are appropriately developed and executed in accordance with the level of associated risk.

The Quality Engineer shall also carry out their own surveillance on select manufacturing or construction documentation in accordance with the Surveillance Strategy and, where applicable, perform joint inspections with contracted inspection entities, in line with their own Surveillance Plans to oversee inspection performance. As part of demonstrating their ‘Intelligent Customer’ role, the QML shall measure and report quality metrics to the project, Quality function and Supply Chain Management and perform regular audit of the supplier and the management of their sub-contractors to ensure supplier performance is maintained.

Principal Accountabilities:
