Job Description
Venesky-Brown's client, a public sector organisation in Scotland, is currently looking to recruit an Operational Comms Engineer for an initial 3 month contract on a rate of £250/day (Outside IR35). This role will have flexible working arrangements.
Responsibilities:
– Make full use of IT Service Management (ITSM) tools available to work effectively and efficiently, complying with ITIL framework principles, ensuring resolutions or fulfilments are undertaken within agreed service level agreement(s) (SLAs).
– Undertake ongoing Research & Development (R&D) and seek to identify areas to deliver innovation initiatives to benefit the organisation.
– Complete training courses as necessary to ensure ongoing compliance with mandatory requirements in a range of key subjects, such as cyber safety, health, and safety, DSE.
– Contribute to the development, implementation, and management of quality standards across the Operations team.
– Manage stock of all assets within your relevant area of the department, ensuring accurate records are maintained and all assets are accounted for at all times, in line with departmental policy.
– Maintain accurate asset management records to ensure the status, assignment and location of all assets is available at all times, in line with departmental policy.
– Have good understanding of how to navigate and apply the appropriate level of change governance where change activity is being proposed or implemented to any Digital and Technology systems or assets, in line with departmental policy.
– Contribute to and have good awareness of ongoing development and implementation of departmental Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity (BC) procedures to support the needs of the organisation.
– Contribute to and encourage a documentation culture within Digital and Technology Services to ensure high quality documentation in the relevant subject matter(s) is produced, maintained, and utilised effectively.
– Assist in the implementation of developed Operational Comms infrastructure solutions. Including analysis, implementation of appropriate performance and capacity management of all Digital and Technology Services Operational Comms solutions. In addition to undertaking training in current and future technologies
– Provide training/advice/mentoring to other members of staff, of similar level or below when required.
– Test and implement complex technical new and improved corporate solutions to meet requirements for Digital and Technology Services Operational Comms infrastructure solutions and their associated systems, by assessing current systems capability and performance, in terms of conforming to industry best practise and to the Technical and Operations Strategies.
– Provide engineering support on a day-to-day basis.
– Maintain an in-depth knowledge of Operational Comms specialisms, providing expert advice regarding their operation.
– Maintain awareness of opportunities provided by new technology to address challenges or to enable new ways of working. Within own sphere of influence, work to further organisational goals, by the study and use of emerging technologies and products.
– Contribute to procurement exercises for elements of infrastructure and Operational Comms technology.
– Implement and manage proactive tools, techniques, and procedures to monitor the availability, performance, capacity, and failure rates of all operational comms solutions.
– Carry out any other task assigned by a Team or Senior Manager deemed commensurate to the role.
Essential Skills:
– HNC in an Electronic Engineering related discipline, or equivalent experience
– Good technical knowledge and experience in the management and support of relevant digital and operational comms technologies, and operational control systems, such as; VHF/UHF radio, voice communications, GD92 POCSAG paging, satellite communications and Tetra technologies
– A high degree of competency and experience with operational comms systems in a large enterprise environment
– Application, installation and troubleshooting experience in a radio, paging and telecommunication systems environment
– Full Driving licence
Desirable Skills:
– ITIL V4: Foundation certification or higher
