Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit a Senior GIS Engineer for an initial 6 month contract on a rate of £450/day (Inside IR35). This role will be based in Edinburgh.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and perform an Enterprise Upgrade migrating to a new virtual server.
- Lead on establishing/configuring 2-way API/ODBC Propman/GIS Connection.
- Lead the SDE Connection review and refresh to enable us to move to a service-based environment.
- Support the data completeness and improvement project.
- Support the completion of the current phase of the land registration project.
- Carry out any other duties as required.
- Expertise in ArcGIS Enterprise administration, geodatabase design, and API/REST service development, with responsibilities for delivering, managing and optimising high-performance spatial platforms and integrated data services.
- Expertise in designing and supporting enterprise geospatial platforms and services, specialising in ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcSDE, SQL Server, system automation, and cloud-based deployments.
- Experienced in delivering robust, scalable GIS solutions that support spatial data analysis and business operations.
- Proficient in managing and optimising GIS Enterprise platforms (e.g., ArcGIS Enterprise), including system upgrade and configuration, security, performance tuning, and service publishing to support robust, organisation-wide geospatial capabilities with a proven ability to minimise downtime and ensure secure, stable GIS platforms.
- Proven experience managing and upgrading ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal, ArcGIS Server, Data Store, Web Adaptor).
- Familiarity with Azure cloud platforms.
- Experienced in designing, implementing, and maintaining efficient geodatabase architectures, ensuring data integrity, performance optimisation, and adherence to best practices for spatial data modelling.
- Expertise in enterprise geodatabase and SDE connection management, specialising in reviewing and redesigning data access architectures to improve performance, scalability, and security.
- Experienced in optimising ArcGIS Enterprise environments, reducing database load, and implementing best-practice connection strategies across complex, multi-user systems.
- This role ensures that spatial data access patterns, connection management, and database configurations align with enterprise best practices and support reliable GIS operations across the organisation.
- Significant experience managing enterprise GIS and SDE environments.
- Experience managing and upgrading enterprise geodatabases (SQL Server).
- SDE connection management and optimisation.
- Skilled in developing and integrating APIs and RESTful services to enable seamless access to geospatial data and services to support web, mobile, and third-party applications.
- Able to bridge the gap between GIS infrastructure and application development by exposing spatial functionality through scalable and secure service interfaces.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting ability.
- Clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver within project timelines.
