Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit a Investigation Paralegal for a 23 month contract on a rate of £194.38/day (Outside IR35). This role will be hybrid based with up to two days per week working from home.
Responsibilities
- Support solicitors and counsel in their investigations into matters falling within the Terms of Reference by assisting with the preparation of formal notices to recover evidence and by analysing documents and evidence ingathered;
- Work closely with the records and evidence management team to redact documents and evidence, including witness statements and transcripts, to enable it to be released to parties and published on the website;
- Support the preparation of findings in fact, and the report in due course;
- Assist with work to support the preparation of the legal team’s records which will form part of the Record to be transmitted to National Records of Scotland;
- Assist the Solicitor to the Inquiry to assess accounts of expenses submitted by parties who have received an award of funding for legal representation;
- Prepare papers for use by counsel and members of the statement-taking team, and undertake administrative tasks required by the solicitors and/or counsel;
- Undertaking any other ad hoc task as required.
Essential Skills:
- Paralegal or other relevant experience
- Ability to carry out tasks independently with minimum oversight, remaining calm under pressure
- Strong communication skills
- Excellent analytical skills
- Awareness of the need for discretion and to maintain confidentiality
- Confidence with IT and high level of proficiency in all Microsoft packages including Word
- Good organisational/administrative skills
