Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Glasgow, is currently looking to recruit a Delivery Manager for an initial 6 month contract with potential to extend on a rate of £479/day (Outside IR35). This role will be predominantly remote, with occasional travel to the office.
Responsibilities:
- Own and maintain the team delivery plan, ensuring scope, priorities, milestones, risks, and dependencies are visible, understood, and actively managed.
- Manage RAID at team level, intervening and escalating decisively where risks or issues threaten delivery outcomes.
- Provide delivery confidence through evidence based forecasting, metrics, and clear narrative reporting.
- Facilitate all core agile ceremonies (e.g. stand ups, planning, reviews, retrospectives), ensuring they are purposeful, disciplined, and outcome focused.
- Act as the owner of the team’s delivery practices and ways of working, reinforcing agreed approaches and evolving them over time using data and insight to improve delivery effectiveness and efficiency.
- Act decisively when delivery momentum is at risk, addressing blockers, inefficiencies, or behaviours that undermine agreed outcomes, and reinforcing accountability for delivery commitments through transparency and follow up.
- Maintain a strong focus on delivery outcomes and transparency, while remaining flexible and pragmatic in how solutions are achieved.
- Identify, track, and communicate dependencies with other teams, working collaboratively with peers, the Release Manager, and digital leadership to resolve or escalate where needed.
- Contribute accurate and timely team level plans, risks, and forecasts into initiative and portfolio level views.
- Engage with other Delivery Managers, Product Owners, Engineering Leads, and Release Management to support alignment.
- Communicate clearly and confidently with digital and non-digital stakeholders.
- Support informed decision making by presenting delivery options, trade offs, risks, and impacts in a straightforward and evidence based way.
Essential Skills:
- Demonstrable experience operating as a Delivery Manager (or equivalent), embedded within an agile delivery team and accountable for delivery outcomes.
- Comfortable holding a delivery plan and RAID, not just facilitating process.
- Experienced in driving teams toward outcomes in environments with ambiguity, competing priorities, and evolving scope.
- Strong practical experience of Scrum, Kanban, or blended agile approaches, applied pragmatically and adapted to context.
- Proven ability to lead agile ceremonies and continuous improvement with intent and challenge.
- A track record of improving team effectiveness, flow, and predictability over time.
- Ability to balance coaching with authority, applying constructive pressure where required to achieve delivery outcomes.
- Comfortable challenging behaviours, assumptions, and practices that undermine effective delivery.
- Strong judgement and decision making skills, including the ability to act on incomplete information.
- Confident communicator able to represent the team’s delivery position at different levels of seniority.
- Awareness of public sector delivery contexts, value for money, and budget considerations.
- Able to contribute delivery insight to financial reporting and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Strong experience with Atlassian Jira and Confluence, using them to support delivery transparency, forecasting, and continuous improvement.
- Proven ability to work effectively with a range of personalities and delivery maturity levels.
- Willing to address delivery impacting issues directly and constructively rather than avoiding discomfort.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience contributing to delivery practice improvement across teams, for example through sharing approaches, lessons learned, or effective ways of working with other Delivery Managers.
- Experience working in organisations with mixed levels of agile and delivery maturity, supporting teams to evolve their practices over time.
- Familiarity with public sector digital delivery standards or assurance processes.
- Experience contributing delivery insight to cross team or release level planning activities, without owning programme level delivery.
