This role is a 3-6 month contract for a Senior Assistant Management Accountant, based in Dumfries, with hybrid work and a rate of Β£17.23 β Β£21.47/hour. The position is advertised by Venesky Brown.
Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and support to Management Accounting Assistants and coordinate and prioritise workload and responsibilities.
- Review management accounting teams\β financial information, support the Finance Manager in corporate monitoring information, ensure reporting is delivered to a high quality, review all budgets under the team, complete variance analysis, ensure accruals and budget adjustments are processed, and complete monthly reporting.
- Provide high quality financial advice and support to General Managers, Heads of Department, Budget Managers and other Managers across a range of specialties, departments and localities.
- Participate as a member of clinical management teams, work with Managers, and provide financial support in service operation, including preparation of business plans, costing of services/developments, and suggesting improvements for value for money and efficiency.
- Provide up-to-date financial forecasts for year-end position in line with quarterly outturn reviews; prepare financial projections considering service changes and assumptions on staffing and supplies costs.
- Promote financial awareness to non-finance staff and provide sound financial information to facilitate planning, decision making, control and delivery within resources.
- Prepare costing information for business cases, projects and new developments; develop costing work for Integrated Resource Framework under the Finance Managerβs direction.
- Negotiate and reach agreement with third parties for recovery of income due to the Board.
- Prepare monthly statements for Budget Managers including financial and non-financial information; report current financial position and forecast out-turn projections.
- Support Budget Managers in managing budgets and financial processes through timely, quality information, advice, training, and ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures.
- Analyse and prepare schedules to provide accurate costings and annual budgets for budget setting.
- Produce monthly financial information for review by Divisional Finance Manager, including:
- Analysis of variances
- Adjusting and correcting expenditure by journal entry
- Calculation and preparation of accruals journals
- Preparation of budget journals
- Identifying funding sources from Board reserves
- Phasing of budget input
- Production and distribution of monthly budget statements
- Reconciliation of budget adjustments processed through ledger to spreadsheet
- Investigation and analysis of transactions in the financial ledger and payroll system
- Preparation of year-end expenditure forecasts monthly
- Review of budgets to ensure alignment with service levels and report variances
Qualifications
- HND or AAT technician level or similar
- Degree or equivalent experience or studying towards a recognised accounting qualification
- Excellent written communication skills (e.g., reports, business plans)
- Excellent verbal communication skills (e.g., presenting financial information at performance reviews)
- Good computing knowledge and keyboard skills
- Good numerical ability
- Extensive knowledge of Excel or similar spreadsheet packages
- Speed and accuracy are essential
- Spreadsheet preparation, analysis and presentation
- Tact and persuasive communication skills for conveying and interpreting information
- 3 years of management accounts experience in an equivalent-sized organisation
- Accounting knowledge commensurate with qualification
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic with excellent interpersonal skills for communicating with staff up to Director level
- Ability to meet deadlines while working under pressure and to prioritise workload
- Ability to work independently under own initiative
- Experience with finance IT systems including reporting hierarchies
