The Role: Oracle Database Administrator

Salary: Up to £80,000 per annum

Location: London

We’re working with an established international bank in the UK that is looking for a Senior Linux, AIX and Oracle Database Administrator to support and optimise its mission‑critical banking platforms. This role is central to the stability, performance and scalability of core banking and finance systems, particularly those built on Oracle Flexcube and Oracle ERP. You’ll be the go‑to expert across IBM Power10, Red Hat Linux, AIX and Oracle databases, ensuring high availability in a regulated banking environment.

What You\’ll Be Doing

• Administer and optimise Oracle databases supporting Flexcube and related banking applications
• Ensure high availability, performance, resilience and security across production environments
• Perform performance tuning (SQL, PL/SQL, RAC, ASM) and capacity planning
• Manage and maintain Linux (RHEL/Oracle Linux) and AIX servers hosting core banking platforms
• Perform OS‑level upgrades, patching and performance tuning on IBM Power10 infrastructure
• Work closely with senior IT staff and specialists from the parent company to plan and specify system requirements

Resilience, Backup & Recovery

• Implement and monitor robust backup and recovery strategies using RMAN and Data Guard
• Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing and documentation
• Ensure environments meet audit, security and regulatory expectations

Automation, Monitoring & Support

• Automate routine tasks using shell scripting (Bash, Korn) and configuration/automation tools
• Use monitoring tools (e.g. OEM, Nagios) and log analysis to proactively identify and resolve issues
• Provide on‑call support and incident response for production systems
• Create and maintain detailed documentation, procedures and operational runbooks

Key Skills and Experience Required

• 7+ years in Oracle DBA roles, including RAC, ASM and database performance tuning
• 5+ years of hands‑on Linux (RHEL/Oracle Linux) and AIX system administration
• Proven experience supporting Oracle databases in Flexcube environments
• Strong understanding of banking and financial systems architecture
• Advanced SQL and Oracle PL/SQL
• Experience with backup & recovery (RMAN, Data Guard)
• Familiarity with WebLogic in banking/enterprise environments (highly desirable)
• Experience with monitoring and alerting tools (e.g. Oracle Enterprise Manager, Nagios)
• Comfortable working in mission‑critical, highly regulated environments
• Familiarity with ITIL processes and change management
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex production issues
• Strong communication skills and ability to work both independently and in cross‑functional teams

Package and Benefits

Salary: Up to £80,000 per annum

Hours: 09:00 – 17:00

Holiday: 24 days per year
