The Head of Sales / Business Development will work closely with the payments leadership team to take ownership of business development and commercial growth. The role will suit someone who is already operating within the payments, acquiring, PSP or high-risk merchant services space and understands what is commercially, technically and operationally possible when serving complex merchants across multiple jurisdictions. This is initially an individual contributor role, with the potential to build and lead a team as the business scales.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive new business development across global payments, acquiring and PSP partnerships.
- Identify, engage and convert merchants, PSPs, banks and partners operating in complex or high-risk sectors.
- Work with large multi-jurisdictional gaming companies, particularly those entering new markets and requiring new payment methods.
- Understand client requirements and identify practical ways to deliver payment solutions.
- Structure commercial deals, including pricing, settlement terms, reserves and partner arrangements.
- Work with internal technical and integration teams to ensure solutions can be delivered effectively.
- Collaborate closely with the wider management team to shape the growth of the payments business.
- Build and manage relationships with payment providers, acquirers, PSPs, banks and other strategic partners.
- Support international expansion through new regions, regulated entities and partner networks.
- Help move the function from leadership-led sales into a more structured commercial engine.
- Potentially build and manage a sales team over time.
Ideal Background
Candidates must have direct experience in the payments market, ideally within businesses that serve high-risk, grey-market or complex merchant sectors. Relevant backgrounds may include acquirers serving high-risk sectors, PSPs or payment providers working with gaming, gambling, adult or similar verticals, payments businesses supporting merchants in hard-to-serve regions, and commercial roles within acquiring, PSP, alternative payment methods, merchant services or payment partnerships.
Required Experience
- Strong experience in payments, acquiring, PSPs or merchant services.
- Proven exposure to high-risk, grey-market or complex merchant verticals.
- Strong understanding of gaming / gambling payments would be highly advantageous.
- Ability to operate globally across multiple markets and jurisdictions.
- Strong commercial deal-making capability.
- Understanding of settlement, reserves, pricing, integrations and merchant onboarding.
- Ability to work with technical teams and partners to make solutions viable.
- Existing network across payments, PSPs, acquirers, banks or gaming merchants.
- Comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial, fast-moving and still-maturing business.
- Able to hit the ground running with minimal hand-holding.
