React Native Engineer with experience in either Android or iOS. In this role as Lead Mobile Developer, you will act as the key technical partner to the Mobile Team Lead, focusing on integrating React Native applications and unifying mobile experiences from various acquired entities within our luxury yachting and lifestyle platform. The position is fully remote, so you should be comfortable working outside of an office environment and be used to working in a business where you'll get autonomy.
Your day-to-day work will centre on hands-on development in React Native, where you will refactor and merge codebases from acquisitions, transitioning iOS components written in Objective-C or Swift and Android elements in Java or Kotlin into a cohesive cross-platform structure. This involves optimising for faster startup times, implementing native bridges for features requiring direct hardware access, such as geolocation services using Core Location on iOS or Google Maps SDK on Android, and ensuring seamless state management through libraries like Redux Toolkit to handle complex data synchronisation across user sessions.
A significant part of the role entails amalgamating disparate technology stacks, for instance reconciling authentication flows—one acquisition might rely on OAuth 2.0 with Auth0, another on Firebase Auth—and standardising them via a unified backend integration using GraphQL with Apollo Client for real-time queries.
On the user journey side, you will map and streamline mobile pathways, merging fragmented experiences like payment processing—perhaps one app uses Stripe's older SDK while another integrates Adyen—into a single, compliant flow adhering to UK FCA regulations and GDPR. This includes designing modular UI components with Styled Components or Tailwind RNN, ensuring accessibility standards like WCAG compliance.
You will join a collaborative team of 3 mobile engineers, who bring experience from leading tech firms, where they honed scalable app architectures in AWS environments, and others from fintech startups specialising in secure transactions. Mentoring will be a natural extension of your work, guiding other developers on advanced patterns such as custom native modules or offline-first strategies with Realm databases, while contributing to architectural reviews that influence roadmap decisions.
Remote working/work at home options are available for this role.
