An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Fire Design Manager to join a leading organisation within the fire protection sector, specialising in data centre fire protection projects. Due to continued growth and expansion, the business is seeking a talented Fire Design Manager to lead the design and technical delivery of engineering projects from concept through to completion.

This Fire Design Manager position offers an excellent work life balance with four days working from home and one day per week in the Reading office. The successful Fire Design Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring all design outputs meet legislative requirements, client specifications, and internal quality standards while supporting operational excellence, safety, and innovation.

As a Fire Design Manager, you will oversee all aspects of design and technical documentation across multiple projects. Working closely with internal teams, clients, suppliers, and stakeholders, the Fire Design Manager will ensure designs are accurate, compliant, delivered on time, and aligned with business objectives. Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all design related deliverables including calculations, drawings, method statements, HSE documentation, as built documentation, and O&M manuals
  • Prepare detailed build budgets and technical designs prior to procurement and construction activities
  • Lead and develop the design team, ensuring alignment with project objectives and client expectations
  • Produce and review technical submissions and engineered fire protection system designs
  • Ensure compliance with current legislation, industry standards, and client requirements
  • Maintain accurate records of design decisions and technical documentation
  • Provide technical support and guidance to site teams when required
  • Support sales and estimating functions with technical expertise and design input
  • Monitor supplier technical developments and assess their impact on projects and business operations
  • Promote effective collaboration between departments to support successful project delivery
  • Represent the business professionally in all client and stakeholder interactions
  • Support site management teams and contribute to a positive working culture
  • Keep up to date with industry developments, competitor activity, and emerging technologies
Skills and Experience Required
  • Proven experience in a design management or senior design engineering position within construction, engineering, building services, or fire protection environments
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and develop technical teams
  • Extensive knowledge of fire detection and suppression systems
  • Strong understanding of relevant industry standards including BS 5839 and BS 5306
  • Experience designing and delivering projects within data centre environments
  • Knowledge of critical infrastructure, redundancy requirements, and cooling systems
  • Ability to produce and review detailed design drawings and engineering calculations
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
