I'm recruiting on behalf of a modern, well-invested manufacturing business near Grimsby who are looking to add a mechanically biased, multi-skilled Maintenance Engineer to their engineering team. This role would suit a hands-on Shift Engineer who enjoys working in a fast-paced production environment and takes pride in maintaining plant assets to the highest standards. The site is a clean, non-food manufacturing facility with a strong mechanical focus and ongoing investment in plant and equipment.
The Role
Reporting into the Engineering Manager (or Production Manager in their absence), you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and reliable operation of all plant and production equipment. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Maintaining all plant and production assets to the highest possible standards.
- Completing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in line with schedules set by the Engineering Manager, ensuring all documentation is accurate and up to date.
- Responding to plant and production breakdowns with urgency, prioritising work as directed by the Engineering Manager or Shift Supervisor.
- Mechanical fault finding and repair on conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, pumps, chains, belts, hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Supporting production teams with day-to-day engineering issues as required.
- Working through engineering job lists and supporting improvement and reliability activities.
- Minimising costs through the efficient use of consumables and spare parts.
- Carrying out basic electrical tasks, such as motor changes, isolations and replacement of simple components where required.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensuring a safe and healthy working environment at all times.
- Adhering to Safe Working Procedures (SWPs) and reporting any issues promptly to the Engineering Manager, Site Manager or Compliance Manager.
- Ensuring correct PPE is used at all times and escalating any requirements.
- Maintaining excellent housekeeping standards and promoting a "clean as you go" culture within the engineering department.
Communication & Shift Handover
- Managing effective shift handovers to ensure continuity of production.
- Communicating breakdowns, site issues and outstanding actions clearly to the oncoming shift.
- Completing shift reports and distributing them to engineering and production management at the end of each shift.
- Highlighting critical and routine spare parts requirements to the Engineering Manager.
- Escalating any concerns where breakdowns cannot be resolved promptly.
What we're Looking For
- Apprentice-trained Maintenance Engineer with a strong mechanical bias.
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding skills on production equipment.
- Comfortable carrying out basic electrical work only (e.g. motor changes).
- Able to work independently on shift.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Own transport required due to site location.
What's on Offer
- Salary in the region of £38,000- £40,000 including attendance bonus.
- Overtime paid at 1.25x basic rate.
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays.
- Company pension scheme.
- Long-term stability with training and progression opportunities.
