An established construction contractor with a strong regional presence, delivering a range of building projects across multiple sectors. The business operates from offices in the Midlands and the North of England and has built a reputation for quality, collaboration and commercially robust project delivery. Due to continued growth, the company is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team based from its Hull office, supporting the delivery of construction projects procured primarily under the JCT suite of contracts.
The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the commercial and contractual management of construction projects from pre-contract through to final account. Working closely with site teams, clients and the supply chain, the role is key to ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, profitably and in line with contractual and commercial requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial & Contractual Management
- Manage the commercial aspects of multiple construction projects
- Administer contracts under the JCT suite, including variations, valuations and final accounts
- Prepare, submit and agree interim valuations and final accounts
- Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with contractual obligations
- Cost Control & Reporting
- Monitor project costs, budgets and forecasts
- Prepare accurate cost value reconciliations (CVRs) and commercial reports
- Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities
- Support cash flow management and financial reporting
- Procurement & Supply Chain
- Procure subcontractors and suppliers in line with company procedures
- Prepare subcontract orders and manage subcontractor accounts
- Assess and certify subcontractor applications and final accounts
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the supply chain
- Client & Project Team Liaison
- Liaise closely with clients, consultants and internal project teams
- Attend progress and commercial meetings
- Assist with the resolution of commercial issues and disputes
- Governance & Best Practice
- Ensure compliance with internal commercial processes and procedures
- Maintain accurate commercial records and documentation
- Promote best practice in cost management and commercial control
About You
Essential:
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction sector
- Strong working knowledge of JCT contracts
- Experience managing projects from pre-contract through to final account
- Good commercial awareness and analytical skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
Desirable:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management
- Experience working on design and build projects
- Membership of or working towards RICS (or similar professional body)
