We are looking for an initiative-taking and skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our clients Design team. This is a fully office-based role, with opportunities to visit project sites and collaborate closely with the Project Lead and Workshop Team, ensuring designs are executed in the most practical and efficient way possible.
- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies, from concept through to production and installation (cradle to grave) and implement feedback in next designs.
- Perform detailed hand calculations (e.g. stress analysis, bolted/welded joint assessments, load calculations).
- Produce and review detailed 3D models and technical drawings using CAD software (SolidWorks or AutoCAD 3D preferred).
- Collaborate with the fabrication and workshop teams to ensure manufacturability and adherence to welding/fabrication standards.
- Apply relevant British and international design standards and calculations.
- Provide technical support to project managers, fabricators, and site teams.
- Ensure compliance with all internal quality, safety, and environmental standards.
Qualifications:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
- Proven experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably within infrastructure or heavy fabrication.
- Strong competence in manual hand calculations for structural and mechanical elements.
- In-depth understanding of welding principles and fabrication processes.
- Proficient in CAD software – SolidWorks highly preferred, but AutoCAD 3D or Inventor also considered.
- Experience in infrastructure or construction engineering.
