An established engineering manufacturer based in Wakefield is seeking an experienced Manual Machinist to join its manufacturing team. Reporting to the Head of Manufacturing, the successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and operating conventional machine tools to produce precision components across a range of sizes and tolerances.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist who is comfortable working with manual milling machines, lathes, and surface grinders in a precision engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities- Set up and operate manual milling machines, lathes, and surface grinders
- Manufacture precision components in line with engineering drawings and specifications
- Ensure components meet required tolerances and quality standards
- Use inspection and measuring equipment to verify accuracy of parts
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work area
- Work collaboratively within the manufacturing team to meet production targets
- Support additional manufacturing tasks as required
- City & Guilds qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (desirable)
- Proven experience operating manual milling machines
- Experience operating manual lathes
- Experience operating surface grinders
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Experience working with a range of materials including tool steels
- Competent in using inspection and measurement equipment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
- Ability to manage changing priorities and tight deadlines
- Good awareness of health and safety practices
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
