About the role:

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Fire Alarm Commissioning Engineer to join a growing and professional team delivering high quality fire detection and disabled refuge systems across the North East. This role offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects ranging from small commercial premises through to large scale hospitals, universities, and multi building developments featuring complex addressable fire alarm systems. You will be responsible for the commissioning, testing, programming, and handover of fire alarm and refuge systems while ensuring compliance with relevant British Standards and project specifications. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and clients to deliver reliable life safety systems to a high standard. This position is ideal for a motivated and technically skilled engineer who enjoys fault finding, problem solving, and delivering excellent customer service. You will play a key role in ensuring systems are fully operational, compliant, and successfully handed over to clients.

Key responsibilities:

  • Commission and hand over fire detection and disabled refuge systems across commercial and public sector sites
  • Carry out the initial set up, programming, testing, and fault finding of fire alarm systems
  • Work on both conventional non addressable and large addressable fire alarm networks
  • Ensure systems comply with relevant British Standards and project specifications
  • Produce technical reports detailing defects, variations, and compliance issues
  • Liaise effectively with clients, project managers, subcontractors, and engineers
  • Plan and organise workloads to meet project deadlines and customer expectations
  • Identify, diagnose, and rectify faults on fire alarm and refuge systems
  • Support installation teams during commissioning and project completion stages
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with health and safety requirements

Skills and experience required:

Essential:

  • Proven experience working as a Fire Alarm Commissioning Engineer or Fire Alarm Engineer with strong commissioning experience
  • Relevant fire alarm certifications and qualifications
  • Strong understanding of British Standards relating to fire alarm systems
  • Ability to diagnose faults and rectify technical issues efficiently
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage workloads effectively
  • IT literate with experience using laptops, smartphones, and email systems for reporting and documentation
  • Ability to produce accurate technical reports and commissioning documentation
  • Self motivated with the ability to work independently and within a team
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • Experience commissioning GENT, Vox Ignis, and mainstream open protocol equipment
  • Experience working on large addressable fire alarm systems within hospitals, universities, or large commercial sites
