Mechanical & Electrical Estimator
Pre-Construction β Remote
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical & Electrical Estimator to join a growing pre-construction team within the low-carbon energy and district heating sector. This role will report to the Head of Estimating and is ideally suited to an experienced professional looking to contribute to innovative projects across the UK.
About the Role
As an M&E Estimator, you will be responsible for providing estimating, pricing, supply chain management, and reporting activities during the bidding, pre-construction, and commercialisation phases of projects.
Projects will include:
- Design & Build (D&B) of new District Energy Networks (DENs)
- Operation & Maintenance (O&M) of existing systems
- Large-scale, city-wide DEN infrastructure
The majority of estimating work will be focused on mechanical and electrical engineering, with occasional civils-related tasks for buried pipework (training will be provided). You will liaise with project teams and clients to gain an understanding of requirements, manage projects from initial pricing through to handover, and support the delivery of successful bids.
The role is remote with occasional travel required for site visits or client meetings.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide estimating services for new bids and ongoing projects, supporting pre-construction, commercial, and business development teams
- Cost estimation and pricing at bid stage for internal and subcontract delivery
- Take-off and measurement of quantities
- Use existing and develop new pricing models and methods to drive efficiency
- Support development of standard pricing rate books for conceptual pricing
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date pricing data and rates
- Source and liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and delivery partners in collaboration with procurement
- Collate pricing into clear, client-ready formats
- Raise and resolve queries with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
- Present costings for review and approval by senior colleagues
- Attend site visits or client meetings (where necessary) to gain project clarity and answer bid-related queries
Candidate Requirements
- 3β4 yearsβ experience in project pricing, estimation, or quantity surveying
- Previous experience within the Mechanical & Electrical sector is essential. PLEASE DO NOT APPLY IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THIS.
- Proven track record of pricing and winning work, developing achievable budgets
- Strong IT proficiency (Office, SharePoint, Teams) with advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, Xlookup, Sumifs, Goal Seek, formulae)
- Ability to read and interpret scopes, specifications, drawings, and schematics
- Strong written, verbal, and in-person communication skills with clients, engineers, and contractors
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment
- Organised, self-motivated, and adaptable in a fast-growing business environment
Desirable experience:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in engineering, estimating, or quantity surveying
- Knowledge of district heating systems, heat pump technologies (ASHP, WSHP, GSHP), or decarbonisation projects
- Familiarity with BIM, CDM regulations, and environmental/social considerations in pricing
- Experience with Bluebeam Revu, Trimble, or Procore software
