An exciting opportunity has become available for a skilled Shift Engineer to join a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment in Markham Vale. This Shift Engineer position is working within a 24/7 operation and is ideal for an experienced engineer who thrives in a busy production setting and enjoys working on complex automated machinery.
As a Shift Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining the reliability, safety, and performance of high-speed production equipment. The successful Shift Engineer will carry out both reactive and planned maintenance activities, ensuring downtime is minimised and production targets are consistently achieved. The Shift Engineer will be responsible for diagnosing and resolving mechanical and electrical faults across a range of automated systems and manufacturing equipment. You will also support planned preventative maintenance activities and continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving equipment reliability and reducing repeat breakdowns.
This Shift Engineer role requires strong fault-finding skills across electrical, mechanical, and control systems, along with the ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and PLC diagnostics. The successful Shift Engineer will have a proactive approach, excellent attention to detail, and a strong commitment to health and safety standards at all times. Working closely with both engineering and production teams, the Shift Engineer will contribute to maintaining high engineering standards across the site while supporting operational performance and efficiency.
Key responsibilities- Provide engineering support to the department for breakdowns, PPM, and TPM activities
- Carry out reactive and preventative maintenance to agreed engineering standards
- Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults on production equipment
- Support electrical and mechanical installations within your skill set
- Identify required parts and equipment for repairs and improvement work
- Make informed decisions regarding breakdown solutions and project completion
- Ensure site assets are maintained to a high standard and remain reliable
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and improve performance
- Work towards achieving site engineering KPIs
- Use PLC I/O systems as a diagnostic tool for fault finding
- Ensure all work is carried out safely and in line with site procedures and legislation
- Maintain accurate stock control by booking out parts correctly
- Work collaboratively with engineering and production teams to support operational targets
- HNC qualification or higher, with a minimum BTEC Level 3 in an engineering discipline or equivalent
- Previous experience working within a production or service environment
- Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding experience
- Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance
- Ability to diagnose faults using PLC I/O systems
- Electrical and mechanical installation experience
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics
- Strong problem-solving skills with a logical and safety-focused approach
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexible approach to working continental shifts
- Experience within FMCG or print manufacturing environments
- Experience working in high-volume automated production environments
- Knowledge of current legislation and European Directives relevant to engineering and maintenance
