An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Tube Slipper Borer Machinist to join a well-established precision engineering company. This is a hands-on manual machining role involving the setting and operation of slipper boring equipment used to bore and machine large tubular components to customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set and operate manual slipper boring machines.
  • Bore and machine tubes and tubular components to specified dimensions and tolerances.
  • Work from engineering drawings and job instructions.
  • Select and set cutting tools, speeds and feeds appropriate to the material and operation.
  • Carry out dimensional checks using micrometers, bore gauges and other precision measuring equipment.
  • Maintain high standards of quality, accuracy and housekeeping within the workshop.
  • Assist with the safe handling and movement of large workpieces using overhead cranes where required.

Essential Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a manual machinist, borer, horizontal borer or similar engineering role.
  • Experience boring and machining tubes up to 10 metres in length.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience working to tight tolerances and quality standards.
  • Good understanding of machining techniques, tooling and measuring equipment.
  • A practical, methodical approach with strong attention to detail.

Working Hours:

  • Monday to Friday, 06:00 – 14:30
  • or Monday to Friday, 07:30 – 16:00
