About the role: We are seeking a skilled and motivated Fire Alarm Commissioning Engineer to join our growing team across London. This role is responsible for the commissioning, testing, and handover of fire detection and alarm systems across a range of commercial, residential, and public sector projects, ensuring full compliance with relevant British Standards and client specifications.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high quality life safety systems, working closely with project managers, installation engineers, and clients to ensure systems are fully operational, compliant, and ready for service. This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects across the capital while contributing to the safe delivery of critical infrastructure.

Key responsibilities:

  • Commission addressable and conventional fire alarm systems in line with BS 5839 and project specifications
  • Carry out functional testing, device verification, and cause and effect testing prior to system handover
  • Identify, diagnose, and rectify faults on newly installed fire detection and alarm systems
  • Verify correct installation against drawings, specifications, and site requirements
  • Support system configuration, loop testing, and panel programming where required
  • Assist with client demonstrations and witness testing to confirm system compliance
  • Complete commissioning documentation, test sheets, and handover records accurately and on time
  • Liaise with project managers, installers, and other site trades to ensure smooth commissioning activities
  • Highlight installation issues and provide feedback to support project delivery timelines
  • Ensure all work complies with company quality procedures and health and safety standards
  • Maintain clear communication with clients and site teams throughout commissioning phases
  • Support integration with interfaced systems such as smoke control, access control, or BMS where applicable
  • Represent the company professionally while working across multiple sites in London

Skills and experience required:

Essential:

  • Proven experience as a Fire Alarm Commissioning Engineer commissioning addressable and conventional fire alarm systems in live project environments
  • Strong working knowledge of BS 5839 Part 1 and relevant fire detection standards
  • Experience with major fire alarm manufacturers such as Advanced, Kentec, Notifier, Gent, Morley, Siemens, or similar
  • Ability to carry out cause and effect testing and full system functional verification
  • Competence in fault finding, diagnostics, and resolving commissioning stage issues independently
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and cause and effect matrices
  • Experience completing commissioning certificates and handover documentation accurately
  • Strong understanding of site health and safety requirements and safe systems of work
  • Good communication skills when working with project managers, installers, consultants, and clients
  • Ability to manage workload across multiple sites and meet programme deadlines
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across London and surrounding areas

Desirable:

  • Relevant industry qualifications such as FIA units, ECS or CSCS card
  • Experience supporting integration with related systems such as smoke control, suppression interfaces, or BMS
