A well-established food manufacturing site is seeking an experienced Maintenance Engineer to support site operations by maintaining and improving production equipment. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this role involves a mix of mechanical and electrical maintenance, including both reactive breakdowns and planned preventative maintenance. You will play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability and supporting continuous improvement across the site.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out reactive and preventative maintenance on a range of food processing equipment including filling machines, pumps, spiral freezers, steam kettles, metal detectors, and depositors.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic faults.
- Complete repairs and modifications to machinery as required.
- Perform PPM tasks and accurately report findings.
- Record all maintenance activities using a CMMS (Shires).
- Identify and request required spare parts through the Engineering Buyer.
- Ensure all work is completed in line with health & safety and food manufacturing standards.
- Build strong working relationships with operations and area leads.
- Complete all required safety and technical compliance documentation.
- Liaise with Engineering and Maintenance Managers regarding foreseeable issues and improvement opportunities.
Knowledge & Skills of a Maintenance Engineer:
Essential:
- HND, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent engineering qualification.
- Experience within a food manufacturing environment is desirable.
- Strong mechanical and electrical fault‑finding skills.
- Experience contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good IT literacy.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, from shop floor to senior management.
- People management and teamwork skills.
- Strong reporting and documentation skills.
- A proactive, “can‑do” attitude with a strong safety focus.
