A well-established food manufacturing site is seeking an experienced Maintenance Engineer to support site operations by maintaining and improving production equipment. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this role involves a mix of mechanical and electrical maintenance, including both reactive breakdowns and planned preventative maintenance. You will play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability and supporting continuous improvement across the site.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out reactive and preventative maintenance on a range of food processing equipment including filling machines, pumps, spiral freezers, steam kettles, metal detectors, and depositors.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic faults.
  • Complete repairs and modifications to machinery as required.
  • Perform PPM tasks and accurately report findings.
  • Record all maintenance activities using a CMMS (Shires).
  • Identify and request required spare parts through the Engineering Buyer.
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with health & safety and food manufacturing standards.
  • Build strong working relationships with operations and area leads.
  • Complete all required safety and technical compliance documentation.
  • Liaise with Engineering and Maintenance Managers regarding foreseeable issues and improvement opportunities.

Knowledge & Skills of a Maintenance Engineer:

Essential:

  • HND, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent engineering qualification.
  • Experience within a food manufacturing environment is desirable.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault‑finding skills.
  • Experience contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good IT literacy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, from shop floor to senior management.
  • People management and teamwork skills.
  • Strong reporting and documentation skills.
