At Velstar, we help ambitious eCommerce clients build experiences that convert. We work with exciting mid‑market DTC and complex B2B businesses, and design sits at the heart of what we deliver.
The role involves leading design across a portfolio of eCommerce clients, taking projects from early UX thinking through to polished, production‑ready UI. Most of your time will be spent designing and iterating eCommerce storefronts and producing creative assets for use across the store and in marketing campaigns. You'll work within proven eCommerce frameworks and contribute to a centralised design system that sets the standard across the agency.
The best work here comes from collaboration. You'll work alongside clients, CRO, SEO, Data and Development specialists who know what performs, and your job is to take that insight and push the creative as far as the brief allows. Alongside client delivery, you'll help raise the standard of design across the team through mentoring, feedback and active contribution to how we work.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Leading UX and UI design across eCommerce projects, from discovery through to developer handover.
- Contributing to pre‑sale activity, including concept design and creative direction for pitches and proposals.
- Designing and iterating eCommerce storefronts and producing creative assets for use across the store and marketing campaigns, across a range of DTC and B2B clients.
- Applying and evolving eCommerce design patterns and frameworks to deliver experiences that convert.
- Collaborating with CRO, SEO, Performance, Data and Development teams to ensure designs are practical, performant and commercially sound.
- Presenting design decisions and rationale clearly to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Maintaining and contributing to Velstar's eCommerce best practice design system.
- Reviewing work across the team and providing constructive, actionable feedback.
- Managing your own workload accurately, including estimation and delivery to time and budget.
What We're Looking For:
- 5+ years of UX and UI design experience, ideally in eCommerce or a digital agency.
- A strong portfolio of eCommerce design work across web and mobile.
- Proficiency in Figma and the Adobe Creative Suite.
- A solid grasp of UX principles, eCommerce design patterns and conversion thinking.
- The ability to balance creative ambition with commercial and brief constraints.
- Strong communication skills, including presenting and justifying decisions to clients and stakeholders.
- Familiarity with front‑end constraints and what good developer handover looks like.
Desirable:
- Experience with Shopify or similar eCommerce platforms.
- Understanding of how design decisions affect conversion rate optimisation, SEO and accessibility.
- Experience contributing to or maintaining a design system.
- Active use of AI design tools as part of your workflow, with an openness to developing that further.
What Success Looks Like:
- Strong billable utilisation and consistent delivery within budget and timelines.
- High‑quality design output with clear rationale, grounded in eCommerce best practice.
- Active contribution to team capability through mentoring, feedback and knowledge sharing.
- Positive client feedback and strong working relationships.
- Practical, creative problem‑solving when projects present scope, brief or user challenges.
