The purpose of the job is to manage a team of Shift Technicians within Polypropylene (PP) Operations so that the production unit is operated safely & efficiently in line with Company standards & HSE objectives.
Responsibilities and accountability
Requirements and expertise
- Ensure all procedures are followed, HSE, Standard Operating instructions, temporary instructions, emergency procedures, COSHH, Quality.
- Actively promote the “Continuous Improvement” culture within the team progressing team tasks and supporting the Improvement Leader.
- Maintain the technicians’ rota on a monthly basis, including job rotation, entitlement management, and emergency cover rota to ensure all workstations are fully covered, responsibilities and priorities clearly assigned to achieve agreed production/ quality targets and KPIs in line with business requirements.
- Assist Operations Manager and Improvement Leader in increasing and maintaining work station competencies for technicians to target
- Assist Operations Manager in monitoring performance, preparing annual staff appraisals, identifying key training needs and ensuring competence is recorded and maintained.
- Focal point for any emergency until relieved by someone in higher authority.
- Ensure PPL Control Room is manned at all times, high quality logs and comprehensive handovers are maintained, BHS are properly completed and signed and “Key Communications” are reviewed and discussed.
- Ensure breakdown maintenance is progressed during shift.
Where it cannot be handled by the shift team it must be entered in SAP following the MOWP process for progressing by the maintenance team
- Participate in management inspections, safety walks, walk throughs talk throughs, integrity audits and procedure audits as scheduled. Raise incidents in Intelex.
- Operational Excellence (OE): ensure awareness & compliance to operating standards and company procedures in relation to operational excellence.
- Prepare and execute planned S/Ds (incl. Turnarounds) in close collaboration with the Improvement Leader
- Support in meetings, e. g.
What Ifs, PHAs, Alarm Reviews, etc. representing the Operations team.
In addition ensure team members are attending regular meetings, e. g. monthly HSE meeting.

- Accredited clearance certificate / AGT Signatory
- PC Literate (Word, Excel, Teams, Windows, Outlook)
- Fluency in written and verbal English is essential
- Strong, proven supervisory capability, overseeing staff, resolving issues, and driving productivity.

- Terms & Conditions
- We offer an attractive compensation package which includes a competitive starting salary, pensionable shift allowance and participation in the Company’s discretionary short-term incentive (bonus) programme.
Currently the full year target for this position is 6% of base salary.
- The holiday entitlement is 25 days/annum plus bank holidays, and we offer membership of the Company Defined Contribution Salary Sacrifice Pension Scheme with employer contributions of up to 10% matching double employee contributions.
We also offer Group Life & Income Protection insurances, a Health Cash Plan and a Cycle to Work scheme.
