About Velocity

Velocity is an independent transport planning and infrastructure consultancy working with clients across the UK and internationally.

We provide advice and design services across transport planning, highways, drainage and infrastructure, supporting projects from early feasibility and planning through to detailed design and delivery.

We are a growing consultancy with a collaborative working environment and a strong focus on high-quality technical work, professional development and providing an excellent service to our clients.

Our people work closely across disciplines and levels of experience, giving employees the opportunity to take responsibility, develop their skills and make a meaningful contribution to both projects and the wider business.

The role

Velocity is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice Transport Planner to join our transport planning team in London. This is an excellent opportunity to start a career in transport planning while working towards a recognised qualification.

This is an opportunity to earn, learn and build a career in a growing professional field, while contributing to real projects from the outset and developing the skills needed to progress within transport planning.

You will gain practical, hands-on experience in a professional consultancy environment, supporting our team on real development projects while developing your technical and professional skills.

The role is full-time and based in Shad Thames, London, with one day each week allocated to college, university or training provider study as part of the apprenticeship programme.

Responsibilities

Working alongside experienced transport planners, you will support the delivery of transport planning work for development projects and gradually take on greater responsibility as your knowledge and confidence develop.

· Supporting the preparation of transport planning reports, assessments and technical documents.

· Collecting, organising and analysing transport and traffic data.

· Assisting with transport surveys, including pedestrian, cyclist and vehicle counts, and Active Travel Zone Assessments.

· Helping prepare travel plans, transport statements and other supporting documents for development projects.

· Researching local and national planning and transport policy.

· Assisting with site visits, surveys and meetings where required.

· Using Microsoft Office and other software tools to prepare tables, charts and presentations.

· Maintaining accurate project files and records.

· Working closely with colleagues to support project delivery and client requirements.

· Communicating professionally with team members and external contacts.

As part of the apprenticeship, you will attend your training provider one day per week, complete the required coursework and assessments, and apply what you learn to your day-to-day work. You will work towards a relevant apprenticeship qualification in transport planning, civil engineering or a related subject.

About you

We are looking for someone at the start of their career who has a genuine interest in transport, infrastructure, planning or the built environment and is keen to learn in a professional consultancy environment.

You are likely to have:

· GCSEs, or equivalent, in English and Maths, typically at grade 4/C or above.

· A-levels, BTEC or equivalent qualifications in geography, maths, engineering, business or a related subject.

· Good written and verbal communication skills.

· Strong numeracy and attention to detail.

· Good organisational skills and the ability to manage your time effectively.

· A willingness to learn and develop technical knowledge.

· The ability to balance work responsibilities with study commitments.

· Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.

An interest in sustainable transport and urban development, awareness of transport or planning issues, or some basic knowledge of GIS, CAD or data analysis tools would be an advantage, but is not essential.

You should be positive, enthusiastic, organised and dependable, with a professional approach and a willingness to learn from colleagues. You should also be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team and bring a problem-solving mindset to your work.

What we offer

· A structured apprenticeship with one day per week dedicated to study.

· Practical experience in a professional transport planning consultancy.

· Support and mentoring from experienced colleagues.

· The opportunity to develop technical and professional skills while working on live projects.

· Career progression opportunities on successful completion of the apprenticeship.
