This role sits within a high-impact technology team, where the successful candidate will lead an engineering squad responsible for delivering robust, scalable microservices that power core financial products. The Engineering Manager will take ownership of a cross-functional squad, working closely with Product and Engineering stakeholders to deliver reliable, high-performance systems. Reporting into senior technical leadership, they will play a key role in shaping engineering practices, supporting team development, and driving delivery in a fast-paced, scale-up environment.

  • Leads a squad of engineers in building and scaling microservices-based architectures for financial applications.
  • Partners with Product Managers and senior engineers to define and deliver technical solutions aligned to business goals.
  • Acts as a line manager, supporting the growth, development, and performance of engineers within the team.
  • Drives continuous improvement across engineering practices, contributing to team efficiency and quality standards.
  • Owns delivery outcomes, balancing speed, quality, and long-term scalability while communicating trade-offs effectively to stakeholders.

Proven experience managing and leading high-performing engineering teams. Strong background in software engineering, with a solid understanding of modern development challenges and best practices. Experience working in Agile environments (e.g. Scrum, Kanban), with the ability to adapt methodologies to team needs. Ability to drive experimentation, iteration, and continuous improvement within engineering teams. Strong communication skills, with the ability to bridge the gap between engineering, product, and business stakeholders. Capable of balancing short-term delivery with long-term technical strategy. Exposure to financial services or pensions-related products.
