Role Purpose

As Senior Software Engineer, you will be accountable for the design, development, deployment and maintenance of the software solutions that meet the needs of our business and our customers.

This is a hands-on engineering role: your impact is measured through the quality, reliability and timeliness of the software you deliver, and through the technical standard you set for the engineers around you.

You will work closely with product, project, Dev Ops and QA colleagues, aligning your work to delivery timescales and escalating risks and issues to the Engineering Manager as needed.

You will provide technical expertise across design, development and system integration, coach associate and mid-level engineers, and support the embedding of AI-assisted development tools into daily practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test and debug software solutions across the full stack, taking end-to-end ownership from requirement through to production release.
  • Ensure work within the development lifecycle is delivered on time and to the agreed standard of quality, security and maintainability.
  • Provide technical expertise in design, development and system integration, and keep the supporting technical documentation current.
  • Contribute to estimation, sprint planning and scheduling in line with project commitments and SLAs.
  • Support the technical release process and sprint retrospectives, driving continuous improvement in how the team works.
  • Contribute to architectural and design decisions for your area, making well-reasoned trade-offs and documenting them clearly.
  • Review the code of others and act on review feedback, upholding agreed coding standards, patterns and best practice.
  • Investigate and resolve production and technical incidents affecting your area, carrying out root-cause analysis and follow-up improvements.
  • Coach and mentor associate and mid-level engineers, advising on the correct procedures, policies and documentation requirements across projects.
  • Ensure the software you deliver meets the required standards for privacy, security, compliance and regulation.
  • Share knowledge across the team through code and architecture review, knowledge shares and continuous learning.
  • Undertake any additional duties as reasonably required.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Significant commercial software engineering experience, demonstratable track record of designing, building and maintaining production software at a senior level.
  • Extensive full-stack development skills: front-end (Java Script/Type Script frameworks) and back-end (dotnet).
  • Experience delivering low-latency, API-driven web services and responsive, cross-browser web applications.
  • Experience of relational database design and development (SQL Server) and of cloud hosting and deployment (Azure).
  • Able to make informed decisions and to demonstrate and communicate priorities across multifaceted projects while managing competing responsibilities.
  • Able to communicate clearly, both verbal and written, with technical and non-technical audiences, presenting proposals and solutions, and to take end-to-end ownership of technical work.
  • Experience mentoring and advising junior and mid-level engineers in best practice standards.
  • Comfortable giving and receiving constructive feedback.

How to prepare for a job interview at Velociti Solutions

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Velociti Solutions uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
