An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinical or counselling psychologist to join a well-established psychology service within an integrated multi-professional service providing cancer care within Velindre NHS Trust.

The post is for 0.8WTE, 4 days per week for up to a 12month period to provide clinical cover for maternity leave.

The cancer service delivers outpatient and inpatient based services to adults who have been diagnosed with cancer, receiving treatment, and on follow-up pathways, including end-of-life care.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering comprehensive assessment and interventions, on an individual and group basis.,

  • To assess patients within the Clinical Psychology and Counselling Service who have complex, severe, challenging psychological problems in relation to cancer, which require the specialist interventions provided by Practitioner Psychologists.
  • To construct a psychological formulation of each patient's difficulties and develop an individualised intervention and management plan.
  • To provide the psychological therapy required to address the patient's difficulties, as predicted by the formulation.
  • To deliver clinical interventions in a group setting as required by service need.
  • To provide consultation and advice to professional staff working within Cancer Services on psychological assessment, therapy, and techniques for working effectively with clinical presentations.
  • To be a contributor of psychological knowledge and expertise to the work of the multidisciplinary team.
