Overview:
Veeco is looking for a Quality Engineer to lead continuous improvement initiatives that drive operational excellence and exceed customer expectations. This role is ideal for Quality professionals who are passionate about collaboration, continuous improvement, data-driven decision-making, and who are willing to develop a strong technical understanding of the product. As a Quality Engineer, reporting to the Quality Director, you will be expected to investigate reported quality issues, determine root causes, and develop corrective actions with accountable ownership. You will develop and utilize key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify product and process improvement opportunities. You will lead cross-functional teams, implementing systemic improvements to improve business processes and enhance customer satisfaction. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of cutting-edge manufacturing systems used in semiconductor fabrication. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative problem solver with strong analytical skills and excellent communication ability.
Responsibilities:
- Lead cross-functional teams (Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Field Service) to identify and resolve quality issues in complex electromechanical systems.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives using tools such as 8D and FMEA.
- Act as the voice of quality in NPI (New Product Introduction) gate reviews and design decisions.
- Analyze production and field data to identify trends, drive root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Develop and maintain KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) relevant to the program and company objectives.
- Maintain and generate reports from quality metrics dashboards.
- Partner with Supplier Quality and vendors to leverage Failure Analysis learnings in Veeco and customer satisfaction improvement efforts.
- Summarize Failure Analysis findings to the team and management.
- Support documentation improvements: SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), drawings, work instructions, inspection plans, etc.
- Communicate findings and recommendations clearly across technical and non-technical audiences, both verbally and in writing.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or a related technical field and 5 years of related experience or a Master’s degree and 3 years of experience is required. Capital equipment manufacturing experience, especially in the semiconductor industry, is highly preferred. Expertise in quality tools such as 8D, FMEA, 5Why Analysis, Fishbone/Ishikawa Diagrams, SPC, etc. is also required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to lead and influence effectively in a team-oriented, agile environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a foundation in statistics and data analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, tailorable to all audience levels.
- High degree of proven self-initiative and ability to operate autonomously.
- Familiarity with agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Minitab, Power BI, Sigma Solutions) is required.
- Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification.
- CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) certification.
- Familiarity with SAP ERP system: Quality and Service modules.
- Eagerness to learn and grow in a high-tech, precision-driven industry.
- Comfortable working in iterative product development cycles and adapting to changing priorities.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
- Ability to travel domestic & internationally approximately 10%.
Salary and Benefits
The expected salary range for this position is $88,000—$113,500, plus a bonus opportunity. We will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors when determining your pay.
