A technical services business in the Midlands is looking for a proper Commercial Engineer. This role is built around reactive breakdowns, so you need to be confident walking into a plant room, diagnosing quickly and getting a system back online without hand holding. If your experience is mainly domestic or planned only, this will not be for you.
Core experience needed:
- Strong background with commercial boilers
- Real experience on forced draft burners
- Reactive breakdown response across commercial sites
- Chillers and air cooled chiller fault finding
- Chilled water systems and AHUs
- Understanding of control wiring and burner interlocks
- Confidence operating alone on live breakdowns
- Solid knowledge of commercial LTHW systems
Mandatory qualifications:
- Commercial Gas Safe
- F Gas Category 1
- Full UK driving licence
- DBS will be needed for certain sites
What the job actually is:
- Attending commercial heating and cooling breakdowns
- Diagnostics on forced draft burners and chiller units
- Fixing issues on the spot where possible
- Servicing and maintaining boilers, burners and chillers
- Occasional install or modification work inside older plant rooms
- Being genuinely reactive and ready for short notice callouts
On call and overtime:
- Weekend on call Friday 1700 to Monday 0700 at £120
- Bank holidays include a further £60 payment
- Call out hours paid as per uplift structure
- Strong overtime potential due to the reactive nature of the role
