Mechanical Engineer

Bedford | £35,000 - £45,000 | 12 Month Fixed-Term Contract

The role is based in Bedford. There will be regular time spent with the engineering and manufacturing teams, although some flexibility around remote working will be available depending on project requirements.

A fantastic opportunity for a post-graduate engineer with some industry experience to develop valuable skills in product design, technical documentation, machinery compliance and engineering best practice.

We're working with an established British engineering company that designs and manufactures highly engineered electromechanical products used in some of the world's most impressive residential, commercial and specialist installations.

As part of a major engineering programme, the business is investing in strengthening and updating the technical documentation, compliance records and supporting engineering evidence across a large and varied product portfolio.

This isn't just a document-control role. It's an opportunity to learn how products are designed, documented, tested, risk assessed, certified and supported throughout their lifecycle. You'll work directly alongside experienced design engineers, technical specialists and compliance professionals, gaining exposure to: Product design, Engineering drawings, Bills of materials, CE / UKCA compliance Machinery safety, Risk assessments, Testing and validation and Product lifecycle management

If you’re naturally curious, enjoy understanding how things work and like getting into the detail of engineering systems, this role will give you experience that many engineers don't encounter until much later in their careers.

Mechanical Engineer - The Role

You’ll be joining a small team responsible for reviewing, updating and consolidating the engineering documentation associated with a large portfolio of electromechanical products.

The framework, processes and technical leadership are already in place. What is needed now is a bright and organised engineer who can work methodically through the detail.

Typical activities will include:

• Reviewing existing drawings, bills of materials, specifications and engineering documentation.
• Building and updating technical files using established templates and processes.
• Identifying missing information and working with engineers to fill the gaps.
• Supporting machinery compliance and CE / UKCA activities.
• Helping prepare product descriptions, installation information and supporting technical documentation.
• Assisting with inspections, testing activities and evidence gathering.
• Maintaining accurate document registers and revision histories.
• Working closely with design, manufacturing and engineering teams to ensure product information is complete and accurate.

Mechanical Engineer - Requirements

• A degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline.
• Ideally at least a couple of years of industry experience.
• Experience producing or working with engineering drawings, bills of materials, manufacturing documentation or technical reports.
• A good understanding of mechanical assemblies and how products fit together.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• The confidence to ask questions and work with experienced engineers to gather information.
• Beneficial: Mechanical design, Manufacturing engineering, Product support engineering, Technical documentation, SolidWorks or similar CAD software, Electromechanical products, Machinery or automation equipment, CE / UKCA compliance.
