As part of significant investment and ambitious growth plans, a leading engineering group is building a new UK manufacturing plant and has a vacancy for a Project Manager to lead the planning, coordination and execution of a major factory relocation project. Joining on an 18-month fixed term contract, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of the build and move, including facility readiness, equipment relocation, production continuity, budget control and risk management.
The Role
- Develop and manage the overall factory relocation strategy, project plan and timeline.
- Coordinate all activities associated with the factory move from planning through post-move stabilisation.
- Manage the relocation of manufacturing equipment, tooling and support infrastructure.
- Coordinate equipment decommissioning, transportation, installation and commissioning.
- Oversee utility requirements, production layouts and facility modifications.
- Develop and implement strategies to minimise production downtime during the move.
- Work closely with operations, engineering, supply chain, quality and maintenance team to maintain customer commitments.
- Monitor production readiness and support ramp-up activities at the new location.
- Provide regular progress updates, risk assessments, and status reports.
- Develop and manage project budgets and expenditure forecasts.
- Identify project risks and implement mitigation plans.
- Ensure appropriate contingency planning is in place.
- Select and manage specialist contractors, movers, installers, and suppliers.
The Person
- Proven experience managing large-scale factory, warehouse, manufacturing or facility relocation projects.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, production processes and industrial equipment.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex cross-functional projects.
- Strong financial and budget management capabilities.
- Knowledge of health, safety, environmental and regulatory requirements within manufacturing environments.
- Experience with commissioning, validation and operational readiness processes.
