Job Description

Technical Architect

Role Purpose:

To lead the technical architecture and integration strategy. This role ensures the platform is secure, scalable, interoperable, and fully aligned with Microsoft Azure best practices , while complying with healthcare and medical device data standards (e.g., GS1, UDI-DI, GMDN).

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Cloud-Native Solution Design:

Design and oversee a robust, scalable, and secure architecture using Azure services, including:

  • Azure AD (B2B/B2C) for RBAC and authentication

Define an API-first architecture (RESTful/JSON) for:

  • Data submission from manufacturers
  • Data consumption by NHS Trust systems and procurement tools
  • Integration with MHRA systems and NHS Supply Chain datasets

Compliance and Standards Alignment:

Ensure architectural and data layer compliance with:

  • Data handling policies aligned with MHRA, NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit, and UK GDPR
  • Accessibility and WCAG 2.2 requirements (via developer enablement and system configuration)

Governance and Technical Leadership:

Lead technical ceremonies (e.g., sprint planning, architectural reviews), mentor developers, and define development standards for a microservices-based delivery team.

Stakeholder Engagement:

Engage in workshops with manufacturers, NHS IT, and regulatory bodies to refine architecture and validate system-to-system integration requirements.

  • Proven track record designing and delivering enterprise-grade applications on Azure
  • Experience with AKS, Azure Functions, SQL/NoSQL storage, Event Grid, Azure AD, and Infrastructure-as-Code (ARM/Bicep or Terraform)
  • Microservices and Data Engineering:
  • Expert in microservices design and container orchestration
  • Fluent in .NET Core (C#) and Python for service development and data pipelines
  • Familiarity with ETL/data validation frameworks, Elasticsearch, Redis
  • Healthcare & Regulatory Domain Knowledge:
  • Strong understanding of medical device data standards and NHS procurement practices
  • Exposure to integrating with or supporting systems regulated by MHRA or equivalent health authorities

Required Certifications

To ensure architecture aligns with Microsoft and government cloud standards, the following Azure certifications are required :

  • Experience with HL7 FHIR and NHS interoperability frameworks
  • Knowledge of ISO 27001, NHS DSP Toolkit, and government IL4 security principles
  • Previous delivery of SaaS-like platforms in regulated industries
  • Familiarity with third-party pen testing coordination, backup & DR, and platform observability
