VCCP has recently implemented a bespoke ERP solution in the UK. This consists of Deltek WorkBook, used by the front office for budgeting, project management, resourcing, and Deltek Maconomy, used as the core Finance system. The systems are integrated via Deltek’s Unionpoint /Workato platform. The Systems Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day ownership of the Maconomy ERP system, including issue resolution, optimisation, process improvement, and configuration, as well as maintaining the integrity of the system, key finance controls, and the production of reports to support the wider finance team. This role sits in the finance team, reporting to the Deputy CFO, but works closely with the IT ERP team and acts as the bridge between Finance, IT, and the wider business.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as the finance lead and subject matter expert for Maconomy.
- Manage the chart of accounts, dimensions, job structures, and exchange rate tables.
- Maintain the Unionpoint integration platform between Maconomy and WorkBook.
- Ensure appropriate system controls, approvals, and audit trails are in place.
- Assist with the system configuration for finance modules (GL, AP, AR, FA, Projects).
- Develop and maintain financial process documentation incorporating system controls and workflows.
Business Support & Training
- Resolve day-to-day Maconomy issues for finance and project teams.
- Assist with the diagnosis and resolution of integration issues and failures.
- Investigate posting errors, WIP issues, billing discrepancies, and data anomalies.
- Liaise with Deltek support partners and vendors as required.
- Support month-end close activities within Maconomy, including revenue recognition, WIP and accruals, cost allocations, and reconciliations.
- Perform regular system checks to ensure data integrity, system controls and audit compliance.
- Create and maintain user guides and training materials.
- Provide system training and guidance to finance users.
Reporting & Data
- Assist the Data team with the development of data models and the implementation of Power BI reports for project profitability, client and job margins, utilisation, and recoverability.
- Maintain and improve Maconomy SAP Business Object reports.
- Support the finance team with the extraction of system data and the building of ad hoc reports.
Change & Project Management
- Act as finance lead on Maconomy projects, including new deployments into international offices.
- Support ERP upgrades, patches, and new module implementations.
- Assist with Maconomy and Unionpoint change requests and enhancements, ensuring appropriate governance is in place.
- Lead finance user acceptance testing (UAT) for system changes and upgrades.
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to enhance, automate and standardise finance processes, controls and workflows within the ERP.
- Partner with Finance, IT, and operational teams to translate business requirements into system solutions.
- Optimise project setup, job lifecycle, and billing processes.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent)
- Strong hands‑on experience with ERP systems.
- Solid understanding of finance processes and controls
- Experience working in a systems, transformation, or finance change role
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills
- Detail‑oriented with a strong control mindset
- Comfortable working across finance and technology teams
- Proactive, curious, and improvement‑focused
