We specialise in high-quality, trauma-informed, child‑centred residential care and are expanding our homes across East Riding to meet increasing demand from Local Authorities. We now seek an experienced Registered Manager to lead a newly opening Ofsted-registered children’s home, fully supported by our Senior Leadership and Compliance Teams.

Role Purpose

The Registered Manager will lead the establishment, registration, and operational delivery of a brand-new children’s home, ensuring it meets all requirements under the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, Quality Standards, and the Social Care Common Inspection Framework (SCCIF). You will play a central role in preparing the home for its first premises inspection, implementing all statutory documentation, and ensuring absolute compliance from day one.

Key Responsibilities

  • Home Establishment & Registration
    • Lead the opening of a brand-new children’s home in line with Ofsted requirements.
    • Oversee the full implementation of policies, procedures, and regulatory documentation.
    • Ensure the home is fully prepared for its inaugural inspection under the SCCIF.
    • Collaborate with agencies and stakeholders to address pre‑inspection queries.
  • Leadership & Team Development
    • Recruit, train, and motivate a brand-new staff team.
    • Provide clear leadership, supervision, and performance management.
    • Foster a culture of reflective practice, professional development, and shared values.
  • Safeguarding & Compliance
    • Ensure children’s safety, wellbeing, and protection at all times.
    • Maintain robust safeguarding processes in line with legislation.
    • Demonstrate strong understanding and application of the Quality Standards.
    • Ensure documentation, records, and audits are maintained to Ofsted standards.
  • Children & Young People
    • Confidently welcome and support the first children joining the new home.
    • Promote a safe, nurturing, therapeutic environment.
    • Lead and support children’s meetings and transition planning.
  • Operational & Professional Practice
    • Work effectively within a multi‑disciplinary environment.
    • Uphold VCare’s support models and core values throughout daily practice.
    • Manage HR processes including recruitment, onboarding, supervision & development.
    • Lead investigations and disciplinary processes where required.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management (Residential Childcare).
  • Experience managing an Ofsted‑registered children’s home.
  • Proven track record of achieving positive outcomes for children.
  • Strong safeguarding knowledge and experience leading investigations.
  • Confident understanding of the SCCIF and its judgement criteria.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and time management skills.
  • Ability to build cohesive teams from scratch and lead a new home confidently.

Desirable

  • Experience opening a new home previously.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic or trauma‑informed practice models.
  • Strong report writing, auditing, and record‑keeping skills.
