Location: City Vets, Exeter

Job Type: Permanent. Open to full-time & part-time applications.

We’re proud of a lot of things at City Vets, but most of all we’re proud of our culture. Following the retirement of one of our wonderful vets, an opportunity has arisen for a vet to join a team that we believe is truly special: empowered, motivated and kind, with a fantastic caseload and a loyal client base.

Why Join City Vets?

  • Modern, extremely well-equipped practice: our main centre in Heavitree is supported by three nearby branch practices in Alphington, St Thomas and Whipton.
  • State-of-the-art facilities – Including CT, ultrasound, digital radiography, endoscopy, dental imaging (across all operating sites), and separate wards for dogs, cats and exotics.
  • Exceptional clinical expertise – Our team includes multiple certificate holders in surgery, medicine and imaging, with further qualifications underway in exotics and surgery. We are also supported by visiting specialists in cardiology, ophthalmology and physiotherapy.
  • Our nursing team are our superpower. The team are highly skilled, undertaking a wide range of procedures and consultations.
  • Strong case support – We work closely with local referral hospitals and benefit from regular CPD events and dedicated input from Cave Veterinary Specialists.
  • Career development – We actively support certificate study both financially and clinically, with exposure to advanced cases through our referral networks to encourage ongoing professional growth.

We think Exeter is unbeatable – The forest, the moors, the estuary and coastline, an exciting food scene, excellent rail links to London and beyond, Exeter offers the perfect balance of city living and countryside, with the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site nearby.

The Team

At City Vets, we are serious about delivering outstanding patient and client care while ensuring our team feels supported, valued and able to maintain a healthy work-life balance. We work collaboratively, encouraging every team member to bring their feedback and ideas to the table.

Our progressive nursing team plays a key role within the practice, leading on imaging, lump removals and stage 1 dental procedures. We are proud to have multiple nursing certificate holders in exotics, anaesthesia, imaging and dentistry.

Out-of-hours services are outsourced to protect work-life balance, while inpatient care remains in-house. Weekend duties are shared fairly across the veterinary team.

Our practices are accredited Cat Friendly Clinics by the ISFM, ranging from Bronze at Whipton to Gold at Heavitree. In addition, St Thomas holds Silver Rabbit Friendly accreditation from the RWAF, and Heavitree is a Gold Standard RWAF practice.

If you’re looking to join a supportive, skilled and friendly team where you can truly thrive, we would love to hear from you.

What We Are Looking For

  • A Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys building strong client relationships and delivering high-quality, personalised care.
  • Experienced and confident across all areas of first-opinion practice.
  • RCVS registered or eligible to register.
  • An interest in exotics is not required, but can certainly be nurtured if wanted, thanks to our fantastic team of Exotics-focused vets and nurses.

What we offer

  • 5-weeks holiday plus bank holidays and birthday leave.
  • Relocation support.
  • RCVS and VDS fees paid.
  • Employer contribution pension scheme.
  • Generous staff discount scheme.
  • Life assurance.
  • E-car salary sacrifice scheme.
  • Enhanced equal family leave.
  • Extensive internal and funded external CPD.
