We’re Episode 1 and we pride ourselves on discovering and backing exceptional founders building world‑changing businesses. We’re a human‑led, tech‑augmented VC firm that invests up to £3m very early on in a startup’s journey, and our team have been amongst the earliest investors in businesses like Zoopla, Betfair, Carwow, Shazam, Lawhive, Stelia and CloudNC. Connecting with founders and helping them on their journey is at the core of what we do, and is the reason for much of our success over the last 10 years. We’re now on the lookout for a new member of the investment team to help unearth and invest in these extraordinary startups.
About the role
We are a friendly and growing team of 10. By joining us you can expect to do the following:
- Find and evaluate new investment opportunities whilst forging deep relationships with the most talented entrepreneurs
- Meet the smartest, craziest and most ambitious founders in the world
- Identify and lead investments into the very best startups from the thousands that we see every year and persuade the investment team to invest in them
- Have the autonomy to be creative in the role and find your own strengths in an open‑minded environment
- Review pitch decks and critically evaluate whether the business can succeed in the real world
- Research and perform due‑diligence on potential investments
- Become an expert in the technologies and sectors you love
- Be part of an ambitious team building the leading early‑stage VC fund
- Be listened to, accepted and rewarded/recognised for your exceptional performance
- Attend events and travel to global tech and startup conferences
- Build your own personal brand and make an impact in the startup/venture ecosystem
- Freedom and encouragement to build and run your own internal initiatives
What would success look like?
If you’re able to find startups that the team is interested in and then convince us to invest in them, that’s success. If you do this, there’ll be natural progression for you.
About you
We’re looking primarily for someone with the following:
- 1+ years VC/angel investing experience
- Commercially minded
- Highly ambitious
- Curious and inquisitive mind
- A passion for technology and the future – loves trying out the latest tech/products
- A self‑starter
- Ready to muck in
- An open mind
- Comfortable networking with founders and other VCs
