As the first point of contact for our clients and their pets, our ideal candidate is accustomed to working well in a team but also able to work independently in sub-branches. The ability to drive is necessary as we have three branches locally. We are looking for someone who is empathetic and has the ability to stay calm under pressure. Flexibility is required to help provide cover for holidays and sickness across all three branches. Computer literacy is essential.

The main duties of this position include:

  • Dealing with clients in person or by telephone/email for bookings and general enquiries.
  • Seeing through the client journey in practice, from greeting on arrival to booking future appointments and offering pets a treat on their way out.
  • Using our veterinary practice management software to manage the diary and maintain accurate client and animal records.
  • Taking prescription requests and putting together dispensed orders for the clinical team to check.
  • Taking payments and running the end-of-day banking.
  • Animal handling, particularly in sub-branches where the vets may require receptionist help. A calm and confident approach to animal handling is required.
  • Keeping reception areas clean, tidy and stocked and responsible for the end-of-day cleaning when working in a sub-branch.
  • Confidence in promoting our healthcare plan and understanding the importance of maintaining up-to-date routine healthcare for our clients' pets' well-being.

Avon Lodge Veterinary Group provides trusted and compassionate care for pets across Newport. We pride ourselves on creating a welcoming, friendly environment where both pets and their owners feel at ease. Our modern, well-equipped practice offers a wide range of first-opinion veterinary services.

Therefore, a can-do attitude and the ability to think quickly and adapt to situations are desirable. Previous telephone handling or customer service experience is beneficial, although on-the-job training will be provided. The successful candidate will be personable, professional, a good communicator and eager to learn.
