The Oak Veterinary Group, Clarbeston Road, Haverfordwest, Wales is proud to support the farming community across Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire and Cardiganshire, working closely with beef, sheep, and mixed farms at the times they need us most. As part of our evolving Farm Out of Hours service, you’ll play a vital role in providing reliable, sustainable emergency cover for our clients and their businesses across the wider region.
This is an excellent opportunity for a farm vet who enjoys emergency work but is looking for real flexibility, balance, and a role that can be shaped around their lifestyle.
A varied and rewarding emergency caseload focuses primarily on farm out-of-hours emergencies, with a strong emphasis on obstetrics and acute presentations. It would suit a vet who is confident working independently at night and comfortable building strong, trusted relationships with local farmers and practice teams across Pembrokeshire and Cardiganshire. The caseload is seasonal by nature, with busy spring months balanced by quieter periods at other times of the year, allowing for meaningful downtime and recovery. Where appropriate, emergencies can be attended from home if you live locally, or from accommodation provided during your on-call periods.
We recognise that one size does not fit all. Our priority is building a sustainable out-of-hours model, and we are genuinely flexible in how this role is structured. Options we can accommodate include:
- 1 week on / 1 week off or 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off OOH patterns
- Alternative rota patterns by discussion
- Opportunity to include day work during off weeks if desired, to maintain and develop clinical skills
- Flexibility around start dates and working patterns
We’re open to shaping the role around the right person — whether you want to focus purely on OOH or prefer a blended role.
What we offer:
- Competitive salary DOE, reflecting experience and agreed working pattern
- Vehicle provided
- Holiday allowance built around your working pattern
Life in West Wales offers an outstanding quality of life, with stunning coastline, countryside, and a strong farming community. Whether you enjoy outdoor pursuits, coastal living, or a quieter pace of life, West Wales offers space to breathe while remaining well connected.
