Project Engineer (Mechanical or Electrical)

Responsible for implementing the requirements of the contract and / or project planning procedures, ensuring compliance with the business management system.

Main tasks of job:
  • Liaise with Main Contractors and Subcontractors to create detailed programmes for all projects, implementing recommendations, innovation and best practice as applicable. A detailed review of the scope of each project to ensure all relevant activities and milestones are included.
  • Ensure that the programme content is functionally compliant with the particular tender/contract requirements, planning procedures and best practice guidance.
  • Identify major constraints and contract requirements
  • Identify milestones and factors affecting the programme
  • Establish construction outputs and identify labour hours with the Estimators to determine labour histograms. Apply resource levelling techniques as necessary
  • Apply cost information to each project programme to produce ongoing live cashflow forecasts on each job as well as feeding into an overall operational business cashflow forecast.
  • Get involved in tender bids where programming reviews are required
  • Produce planning deliverables including regular progressed programmes, presentations and feed into reports.
  • Interfacing with third parties to identify and resolve issues and lead regular programme meetings as applicable to each project to monitor progress and identify areas of concern.
  • Assess delays and produce critical path delay analysis and substantiation for entitlement to Extension of Time claims as applicable. All live contracts to be reviewed each month for potential delays.
  • Manage the programme deliverables associated with NEC contract conditions where applicable.
Qualifications

Minimum of HND or equivalent in related Mechanical or Electrical engineering subject or relevant experience.

Experience / skills
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in a similar role
  • Proficient in the use of planning techniques and the required planning toolsets; particular the sequencing of M+E trades and their interfaces and dependencies with other non‑M+E trades
  • Experience with using ASTA Powerproject
  • An understanding of various forms of tender documents, contract documents and specifications; particularly the NEC form of contract.
  • An understanding of various methods of planning, programming and progress monitoring.
  • An understanding of risk and opportunity management with particular reference to planning programming.
  • An understanding of the events that initiate, and of the methods used to demonstrate, delay or change entitlement.
  • High level of communication, control, organising, motivational and management skills
  • Excellent analytical and organisational skills
  • Excellent report writing skills and presentation of documentation
