We are now looking for a trainee electrical/mechanical technician to join the Pen Y Cymoedd (PYC) site team, part of the Onshore Wind Operations UK team in Vattenfall’s Business Area Wind.

Overall purpose of the role: On a daily basis, the Trainee Service Technician will gain experience and training as part of a service team maintaining the site’s assets through day-to-day activities of scheduled and unscheduled work in line with maintenance requirements. Together with the site operations team you will support your colleagues for safely optimising the daily production of PYC.

Your Responsibilities as a Trainee Service Technician:

  • Support the PYC site team to control all activities on Pen Y Cymoedd through the implementation of rigorous and documented processes.
  • Support technicians for turbine fault diagnosis, repair and planned maintenance activities on the 3DD turbine platform.
  • Provide accurate and detailed reporting of work activities on SAP systems.
  • Support with facilities management and site administrative activities as required.
  • Work to agreed targets against the PYC site team’s defined KPI’s.
  • Execute work on site in accordance with the Vattenfall Wind Turbine Safety Rules and Vattenfall Electrical and Mechanical Safety rules, achieve the relevant authorisations and comply with contractual obligations and site rules/regulations.
  • Support activities such as implementation of common procedures, HSE (according to Vattenfall’s procedures and UK legislation), development of new operational processes and systems.
  • Contribute to out of hours and weekend response in accordance with the PYC site team’s Emergency Response Plan, reactive cover, and planned works.
  • Maintain maintenance records, service manuals and procedures in the Vattenfall Document Management System (e.g. AWPs, Method statements, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • A technical background with a qualification/working towards completion of qualification in electrical and/or mechanical disciplines to NVQ3 level (or nearing completion of an equivalent academic Engineering Apprenticeship).
  • Interests in renewable energy technology, electrical power, mechanical, hydraulic and control systems in industrial environments.
  • Open to work within multi-cultural and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Be results-oriented, able to meet tight deadlines and produce concise information for the site operational management team.
  • Ability to work at heights in wind turbine generators, and in adverse weather conditions.
  • Experience of HSE requirements and industry best practice.
  • Full driving license.
  • It is essential you live within a 45-minute commute to the Site.
